Collabro makes inroads into Chinese market

Aberdeen-based specialist information systems company Collabro has secured a foothold in the booming Chinese market after clinching a deal to make one of its key products available in the country.

Shanghai group Great Idea Science and Technology has signed an agreement to act as resellers for Collabro’s Legare product in China. It follows similar contracts secured by the Scottish firm with resellers in countries as far afield as Australia, America and Malaysia.

Legare is a software solution providing data extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) in the enterprise environment, built around Oracle’s Primavera product suite. It is utilised extensively in the Oil and Gas industry but has wider uses in other markets, such as the Construction, Utilities, Petrochemicals and Defence sectors.

The new deal with Great Idea was clinched during a two week tour of the Asia Pacific region by Martin Slowey, Collabro’s International Business Development Manager, which was supported by Scottish Development International.

Mr Slowey said: “Great Idea have extensive experience and contacts, so we’re delighted to be working with them. They already have a project lined up for Legare and it is an exciting proposition for us in a marketplace we see great potential in.

“We recently invested in translating Legare into Chinese, which was a big challenge but one which is already beginning to pay off. It was technically a very testing process, which we carried out in Aberdeen with the support of Great Idea, but it was a vital step as we look towards the opportunities in China.

“Securing a Chinese reseller was a key part of our strategy and to have that in place is a major step forward. The tour also helped raise awareness of Legare in an important region for us, so it proved to be a valuable exercise.”

Collabro currently employs 16 staff at its base in Bridge of Don, Aberdeen, and offers a range of services to clients, including delivering and overseeing multi-participant projects and designing bespoke solutions for specific client needs.
